The Basics Of What A Disability Attorney Can Help You With

Law Blog

If you are a disabled person who can no longer work, then you know just how financially debilitating it can be (literally). When it comes to providing for your family and taking care of yourself, it can often seem like the two of those don't go hand-in-hand when you are a person with a disability. Luckily, with the help of a disability attorney, you may be able to find the help that you need both emotionally and monetarily. Read on to learn a little bit more about the basics of what a disability attorney can help you with.

Filing Disability Claims

One of the many great things about the United States government is that we have a lot of social programs that are designed to help people who are in need. For instance, when people are having difficulty paying for food, then there are food stamps. When people are having difficulty paying for rent or housing, there are government-run housing programs. When people are having a hard time working and paying for the bills because they are disabled, there are social security benefits.

The tricky part about social security benefits is that you may have to apply multiple times in order to be approved because the government is especially strict with this program. When, however, you hire the help of a disability attorney, they will help you fill out the paperwork, get all of the correct forms in order, and will represent you in court to help you get the social security benefits that you need to stay afloat a lot faster.

Representing You In Front Of Your Employer

While your disability claims are being reviewed and discussed by the social security disability program, you still probably have to work a little bit to support yourself and your family. A disability attorney can help represent you in front of your employer to ensure that you aren't being mistreated or penalized because of your disability. If there is any evidence that you are being treated unfairly because of your disability, then you may be able to file a civil suit against your employer with the help of your disability attorney.

Nobody wants to find them self in a position where they are too sick or disabled to work, but it is something that many Americans find themselves facing. When you hire the help of a disability attorney, they can help you get the treatment and benefits that you deserve.

Dealing with Estate Planning When You're Single

Too many single people assume they don't need to plan their estate. My brother fell into this category, and his unexpected passing left our entire family struggling to deal with his home, belongings, and financial accounts. It took nearly three years for the courts to set up a deal because he left no paperwork detailing how he wanted his estate divided. The situation immediately convinced me to work on my own estate, even though I'm still in my early 30's and don't have children or a spouse to worry about. Since it's a little harder to pick beneficiaries and estate managers when you're single, I collected the resources I used for making my own decisions and decided to publish them here on my blog. Use these resources before talking to an estate planning attorney so you're prepared for making hard decisions.
